“What soft drinks do you have?”

“Lemonade, coke or diet coke” the bar tender replies.

“And whatever we have in the fridge.”

She nods her head towards the steamed-up glass doors of the floor level fridges behind her.

It’s not very well lit and I can barely make out the bottles. It’s impossible to identify what they might be.

The bar tender hasn’t moved from her spot on the till.

We’re at the Arena, Leeds for a comedy night.

She’s tapping her till impatiently as the queue behind us grows.

I’m sure there are some nice-looking alcohol-free drinks there, but she’s not being very forthcoming and choosing a drink is becoming too difficult.

So, I declined a drink.

They lost a sale because they didn’t make it easy to choose from what they had.

Losing out on sales

If your website makes it difficult for your users to choose because you’ve hidden your best stuff behind the counter, then you too could be losing out on sales.

If there’s too many clicks to get to your best offers, then that’s like hiding it behind the counter, like the folk at the Arena Leeds bar.

Make your products or services obvious

To sell more from your website, make sure it’s obvious what it is you sell, the benefits and make it easy for those items or services to be bought.

When you get me to do a web improvement plan, making sure your services and products are a no-brainer for potential dream clients to buy is one of the things I look at enhancing, so you can get more sales and/or enquiries.

If the benefits are too blurry or difficult to find, then you could be losing sales.
